The Las Vegas Interagency Communication Center (LVICC) is the wildland fire dispatch center for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Southern Nevada District, National Park Service (NPS) Lake Mead National Recreation Area, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) Desert Wildlife Refuge and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) Spring Mountain National Recreation Area in Southern Nevada.
LVICC is responsible for dispatching initial attack on wildland fires on more than ten million acres of federally managed land and supports fire suppression resources for local agencies when requested. LVICC is also responsible for daily tracking of field going resource personnel for the BLM, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and U.S. Forest Service in Southern Nevada.
LVICC supports wildfire and emergency support operations throughout the nation by dispatching local resources to non-local emergencies in support of the National Fire Plan and the National Response Plan. LVICC routinely sends federal and non-federal responders and equipment to help suppress fires throughout the United States. LVICC has dispatched personnel to assist in hurricane relief operations, the space shuttle debris recovery, post 9-11 support operations and fire suppression in Australia. We work with our Geographic Area Coordination Center (GACC) to send and receive resources. Our GACC is the Great Basin Coordination Center located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
LVICC uses a variety of tools to perform local and national missions including the Resource Ordering and Status System (ROSS), Wildland Fire Computer Aided Dispatch (WildCAD), Automated Flight Following (AFF), and other tools to ensure the safety of personnel and suppression resources. In addition, LVICC tracks agency and contract resources (engines, aircraft, personnel and other equipment) using GPS systems and a system of VHF repeaters. To accomplish our mission, LVICC works with local fire and law enforcement dispatch centers, neighboring federal dispatch centers, the National Weather Service (NWS) and the Departments of the Interior and Agriculture.
